Happy New Year!
Wednesday,  January 6th , 2016

It's hard to believe that it's the year 2016. Summer and Fall of 2015 were both fun & challenging in their own ways. I'm looking forward to this new year both optimistically and with determination.

It's unreal, but I'm finally a published author. I can officially do science (lol)! You can read about my study here! If you can't access the journal article for free, just email me and I'll be happy to send you a copy.

Happy New Year?
Monday, January 5th, 2015

Fall quarter flew by! Between non-stop dissertation writing and TA’ing 6 sections of EEB 109, I could barely bring in the New Year with my eyes open. That pic on the left sums things up nicely….

OMG
Tuesday, August 12th, 2014

Three months and roughly 130 lines of R code later (not counting the lines of code that didn't work), I'm finally able to calculate Phylogenetic Informativeness for the 5' and 3' flanking ends of the UCE core regions in our dataset. Now to add the new results to the manuscript....

Summer Session A Teaching is in Full Swing!
Tuesday, June 24th, 2014

Off to a great start teaching EEB 109L which is Introduction to Marine Science! This week I introuced plate tectonics with Milky Way candybars and water density with food coloring and salt. Lots of salt. So much salt !!!!

Also, I have no idea who the kids are in that stockphoto on the left. But they're definitely doing  some type of science.

Phylogenetic Informativeness calculations of UCE Core regions are COMPLETE!
Tuesday, June 3th, 2014

This January I learned that the data I've using for the past 2 years has had some major errors in it! So this winter and spring I've been writing code in the computing languages python and R (which you can view on my github page) so that I can automate my work over my 1,200 files. Now I've finally completed some major analyses using TAPIR! The next step is to analyze just the regions flanking the UCE core without picking up on any signal created by the core region.

Shout out to sections 2A, 2D & 2E, "Whoop Whoop"! Let's make this an awesome Spring Quarter!  It's my 5th quarter being a TA and this class is one of my favorites. I can't wait to give the Botany Garden Tour ;0)
